The Fiat Downtown concept which was debuted at the 1993
Geneva Motor Show was an unappealing and bland proposal
for an electric powered city car.
The Downtown's drivetrain consisted of 2 in-wheel electric
motors driving the rear wheels. The electrical power came
courtesy of a rechargeable sodium sulfur battery pack.
With this setup the Downtown could reach a top speed of
just 62 mph. The concept's range, at a steady 31 mph,
was 186 miles.
The interior of the Fiat Downtown featured a three-seat
layout with the driver sitting alone up front.
Thankfully Fiat never took the Downtown project further
than the prototype stage.
