Citroen
Aircross
The Citroen Aircross is a boldy-styled SUV concept that features
the similar chunky design as the production Citroen C4 Cactus.
The Aircross concept is a large vehicle, riding on 22-inch wheels,
and with "king-size" chairs in the cabin. It's a vehicle
designed to stand out from the crowd, and look a little different
to the average SUV on the block.
Citroen say they designed the Aircross concept to convey a strong
sense of identity and a "resolutely optimistic spirit".
The interior of the vehicle is intended to offer a "modern, bright,
fresh and functional design for the occupants' physical and mental
well-being". Both statements are essentially a load of marketing rubbish.
But they do point to the fact Citroen have designed this vehicle with
passenger comfort taking precedent over off-road ability or cargo-hauling
practicality.
Like the C4 Cactus, the Aircross features "Airbumps",
although they have been adapted for the vehicle's SUV role. Whilst
the Airbump technology used on the C4 Cactus is designed to protect
the car's body from everyday bumps and scrapes, the 'Alloy Bumps'
on the Citroën Aircross are there to protect the vehicle from
lateral impact. The 'Alloy Bumps' are made using a highly absorbent
aluminium honeycomb structure.
The interior, which looks like it has been teleported in from the
1970s, offers seating for four, with the driver and passengers each
getting large, well padded thrones to sit in. There are a multitude
of display screens throughout the cabin, some for instrumentation
and navigation, and others for entertainment.
Powering the Citroen Aircross is a plug-in rechargeable drivetrain
which consists of a 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing
218 horsepower, which is backed up by a 95 horsepower electric motor
supplied by a quick-charge lithium-ion battery pack.
With this drivetrain, which produces a peak output of 313 horsepower,
the Citroen Aircross concept is able to go from 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds,
while also offering 166 mpg in the MVEG combined cycle.
