The Chrysler Imperial concept shown at the 2006 Detroit
Motor Show is one of the least tasteful designs of recent
years. The idea, to produce a car sitting above the 300C
in Chrysler's line up is okay. The resulting concept is
a disaster.
Does any one remember the 'Simpsons' episode where Homer
is allowed by his long-lost brother to design a car? Well
this is the real-world equivalent.
Built on the same platform as the Chrysler
300C, the Imperial is a bigger car, passengers have
a higher seating position, more like that of an SUV, and
while the exterior styling attempts to ride on the waves
created by the Rolls
Royce Phantom, it fails miserably.
From front to rear mismatched and disproportionate lines
abound. Chrysler says the Imperial concept was inspired
by previous Imperial models and concepts from the 50's
and 60's.
In some cases maybe it's best to leave the past in the
past.
