The LaCrosse concept which Buick revealed at the 2000
Detroit Motor Show was a versatile multipurpose vehicle
which Buick promoted as a 'Master of Metamorphosis'.
At the mere touch of a button the LaCrosse could be converted
from a saloon to a pickup. And with the roof open it was
almost a convertible.
Luxury was also a key part of the Buick LaCrosse's design.
There was ample room for five people and the vehicle was
fitted with a wide range of equipment, most of it voice
activated. There was also an intuitive joystick mounted
in the centre console for controlling some of the vehicles
secondary systems like air-conditioning and audio systems.
The Buick LaCrosse was powered by a 4.2 litre V8 which
developed 265 horsepower. This was mated to a 4 speed
automatic transmission which drove the front wheels.
