The Bugatti EB 118 concept was revealed at the 1998 Paris
Motor Show. The design of the EB 118 was partially influenced
by the swooping lines of the Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic
from 1934.
The Bugatti EB 118 was construced using a lightweight
aluminium spaceframe. Into this was slotted a 6.3 litre
W18 engine which developed 555 horsepower. The power was
put on the road through a permanent all-wheel-drive system.
Many of the features of the EB 118 concept, including
the W18 engine and flowing bodywork style, found their
way into the 1999 Bugatti
EB 218 concept.
While the Bugatti EB 118 concept never found a place as
a production car itself, the Bentley
Continental GT which appeared in 2003 shares many
styling features with the EB 118. Not altogehter unusual
considering the Volkswagen group owns both manufacturers.
