Concept Cars > BMW E30-based TM concept30Anyone have an old, unloved, 3-door BMW E30 kicking around? Perhaps one with a healthy drivetrain but a little too much rot for a sympathetic restoration? If so they guys at TMcars may want to hear from you. Their concept30 project aims to breathe new life into the venerable old E30 with a comprehensive re-body which sees every panel replaced except for the roof, and a contemporary re-styling all round. The E30 is currently in that strange nether world of classic vehicles. It's not rare enough to be expensive (E30 M3 aside), yet its retro-styling, decent build quality and great chassis make it a desirable vehicle for a resto-mod project. That's if you can find one that hasn't been thrashed beyond salvation. TMcars concept30 plays on the popularity and availability of the E30. The idea behind the concept was to develop the car's styling as if the E30 had been produced today. That means that instead of BMW's contemporary "flame surfacing" style, you're left with a no-mess, efficient-looking coupe with retro style and modern details. As well as the computer model, when developing the kit TMcars also built a 1:10 scale model of the vehicle. The kit is designed to be manufactured and shipped in 12 pieces. Some of the panels are made to attach over the original bodywork, while others are complete replacement pieces. TMcars have so far developed two different versions of the concept30. The concept30 Sport; which is designed more for track enthusiasts - although there's no reason it couldn't be used on the road too. For the concept30 Sport version the wheelarches are modified for wider wheels, and an extra rear windscreen frame is supplied to slightly modify also the roofline. The Concept30 Street version contains just the 12 base pieces. The front bumper, the hood, front fenders, doorpanels, the two sill elements, rear quarter panels, trunk lid, and the rear bumper. Plus all the smaller bits such as the exterior mirror covers and rear mudguards. The price and availability seems to be on a need-to-know basis. So if you need to know get in touch with TMcars. --
