The Audi Roadjet was a five-door hatchback
concept - although upon its introduction Audi labeled
it a 'fastback saloon'. But at the back there's a hatch,
so sorry Audi it's a hatchback.
But as far as hatchbacks go the Roadjet is a pretty nice
looking piece of kit. And while Audi's Teutonic styling
has won many admirers over the past few years, Ingolstadt's
finest decided to try something a little different with
the Roadjet. There's some extra style lines thrown in
around the front - most obvious are the ones which emanate
from the outside edges of the headlight, and some more
complicated creases in the rear bumper.
Taken altogether the Roadjet's not a bad looking car at
all. However without some of these surplus to requirement
lines it might be just that little bit better. Audi obviously
thought so because they haven't used these elements in
subsequent models.
Mounted up front is a 3.2 litre V6 which develops just
shy of 300 horsepower, and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque
@ 4,500 rpm. This is connected to a 7 speed DSG sequential transmission and the trademark quattro AWD
system.
