The beON concept from the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED)
was presented at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The beON
is a hybrid-power concept designed by students and developed
with the help of Mclaren Automotive.
For the beON concept the students looked at trying to
make hybrid vehicles more appealing, they also wanted
to highlight the beON's green credentials and make the
concept stand out from other vehicles.
Power for the beON concept comes from a mid mounted internal
combustion engine and an electric motor, the batteries
are positioned just forward of the cockpit. In addition
to these there is a hydraulic pump with in-wheel hydraulic
motors turning all four wheels.
Access to the interior of the beON concept is through
the forward tilting roof, while at the same time the doors
move down to help entry and exit.
One of the major engineering hurdles the beON would have
to overcome if it were ever to enter production would
be the extremely top heavy layout it currently displays.
