The ERA concept was created by the Institute of Development
in Automotive Engineering (I.DE.A) to celebrate its 30th
anniversary. Founded in 1978 as a family-run company by
Franco Mantegazza, IDEA Institute now operates from a
12,000 sq/mtr facility in Turin and has four branches
in Europe, Asia, and South America.
The I.DE.A ERA is a roadster concept designed to be an
involving and exciting drivers car. It has a simple exterior
with subtle and curvaceous lines flowing from front to
rear. At the back is a distinctive and stylish overhanging
boot lid panel which helps hide the rear lights. The ERAs
simple interior, composed of a visible tubular frame,
highlights the car's purist nature - as does the lack
of doors.
Proposed power sources for the I.DE.A ERA concept include
either a four or six cylinder engine mounted either transversely
with a FWD transmission, or longitudinally with a RWD
drivetrain. Maximum horsepower for either unit is around
300 hp.
Perhaps the most impressive feature of the ERA concept
is the fact it took just 30 days from the approval of
the initial sketches to production of a full-size scale
model.
